With a title like “Calm Me Down” one expects a track to come in as an epically melancholic ballad. That anticipation is squashed the moment Shelter Boy’s new single
kicks off. From the very first second onward, bass and drums tumble you over and prepare you for a serious Britpop-throwback vibe in the hook. Shelter Boy sings in a determined voice, as if he’s just ‘letting it all out’.
“Calm Me Down” is Shelter Boy’s bittersweet way of letting us know exactly where he stands. The song tells of being entangled in one’s own thoughts and getting caught between alternating highs and
lows. About days that pass by far too fast, about running away from oneself and the deep longing to actually slow down and take a deep breath, preferably with the company of another – Jan Wehn
lyrics
Making my stance
It depends on me to go through
But I’m running from myself ’cause there’s nobody else to talk to
And I’m high and down low and I don‘t know what to do about
It feels right when I flow
No one is my foe I hide it
I try hard not to be cruel
I need you to just calm me down
Laughing at me as if I’m a fool
I need you to just calm me down
These days are passing by
In a rush I’m loosing my life
You can’t give me back that time
I spent on hiding here inside my mind
You tried to make me believe
I’m always asleep it shook me
It’s true I’m tired as hell everybody could tell by looking at me
And I’m high and down low and I don’t know what to do about
It feels right when I flow
No one is my foe I hide it
